Hero in the Dark
Paul Katona III, Music Supervisor, Borders Books & Music

This is Eric's third release on Half Moon Full Star Records, following Lucky and Real Slow. Eric's guitar playing is a constant nod to James Taylor, with speaking-like vocals that instantly remind you of Cat Stevens. Simple. Honest. Pure. There is a continuing strand of thread that runs through Eric's music, from song to song, album to album, and is woven into the lyrics and that is that "Life is hard, but life is good."

On tracks like "Fold into My Arms" and "You Are the Music," Eric is at his most vulnerable and intimate. At some points a whisper, at other points he is almost crooning, yet equally you can feel the love pouring out to the woman with whom Eric obviously shares his life. "You Are the Music" would make a great wedding song.

Stefan George's added Dobro playing on tracks like "Memphis Afternoon" and "It'll Be Good to Feel the Sun" gives a blues flavor to Eric's folk bar-b-cue. Frank Lopez on classical guitar adds color and depth to the beautiful ode "True Friends."

Lisa Otey's added vocals on tracks like "Memphis Afternoon" and the title track create the effect of two kites flying in harmony. Her piano playing on the title track gives a gentle reassurance to the song like a mother stroking your hair and whispering encouragement. Some very nice arranging here.

Eric also shares a secret in the songs on this album that is not really a secret, but we often forget, and that is that there are simple and free things in life that can bring you more joy and hope than you ever imagined like a touch or a smile or a laugh or a song. Small gifts of great worth, with no monetary value. Love.

5 out of 5 stars Eric Hanson Is A Favorite
Reviewer: Jim Kloss
We've had the pleasure of broadcasting Eric on Whole Wheat Radio for the last few months. I can't tell you how blown away I am by his music. We hear a lot of indie artists - Eric is clearly in that 'special favorite' category. You're gonna play this and all your friends are immediately going to say "Who IS that?" Enjoy!
