Hi Eric, my name is PeterD and I have been doing article research for the Alphas on-line since 1996. I just stopped by on my cyber tour and want to thank you for all that you are doing for Alphas across this great country of ours. I too, have alpha-1 and just wanted to share my thanks.

"...I'm feeling real good now - [will] just take a little time to get back to normal,... but I'm not ready to go anywhere right yet ...first thing I did when I got home [from the hospital] was pop in a  cd of yours and the song I'm not ready to go!!!!!!!!!! [Real Slow] just had to listen - it made me feel better !!!!

In June, 1997, Eric was diagnosed with Alpha1 Antitrypsin Deficiency, a congenital lung disease. For ten years, he wondered why he was having so much trouble breathing. Like most Alphas, he went from doctor to doctor complaining of shortness of breath. Finally, after coming home from bar gigs so short of breath he was audibly wheezing, Eric found a good doctor who gave a proper diagnosis.

So what does it all mean? A drastic lifestyle change. No more singing at or even hanging out in smoky environments; about 40% lung capacity. He recently finished  a two year clinical study testing a new drug that hopefully will arrest the decline of lung function. The cool part is that being in this study may help many other people down the line.

Eric now lives in Tucson and is on Talecris Biotherapeutics Prolastin® IV therapy.  He is feeling much better since leaving New York and will continue making music until it is impossible to do so...many, many years from now.

Eric's continues to try to help bring awareness to Alpha1 as he travels this country.  His ability to breathe so much life into a room and a song so beautifully with his powerfully trained voice, astonishes as well as delivers enlightening inspiration to those who also suffer from Alpha1

Please, think seriously and learn all you can about organ donation.  There's so much more to it than just saying "yes" on your driver's license.
